Before the opening of Surat Diamond Bourse, the Collector was given a petition to be forwarded to the Prime Minister by the Diamond Workers Union regarding meeting the outstanding demands of the jewelers. Permission was also sought for a protest, if the demands of the jewelers were not accepted. The artisans have been fighting for a few issues since long.
