Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary, Darshan Kumar Nayak, has brought attention to the current absence of a regular Police Commissioner in Surat, a city regarded as the second most developed in Gujarat. Following the retirement of City Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Tomar, the position remains unfilled. Despite a week passing since his retirement, no regular appointment has been made, contributing to a rise in crime within the city. This vacancy extends to the Surat Range Inspector General, further adding to the concerns. Nayak presented these issues to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
