Of all the investments they could make, Surtis resorted to spending on….special vehicle number plates. Recent revelations show that residents of Surat have collectively spent a staggering 36 crores over three years to secure preferred vehicle registration numbers from the RTO. In 2021, 99.36 lakh, followed by 129.16 lakhs in 2022, and 1316.16 lakhs so far this year have been spent on favored numbers. The RTO has issued a total of 99 special choice numbers, comprising 25 golden and 74 silver numbers.
