The surge in Surat's population has escalated the demand for water, reaching 1520 MLD this summer compared to the previous 1500 MLD. This uptick has depleted the causeway's water level and degraded its quality, resulting in foul-smelling green water. To address this, an average of 800 cusecs of water has been released from the Ukai Dam over the past fortnight. Consequently, the causeway's water level has risen from 5 to 5.40 meters, offering a glimmer of hope for the Tapi river's water quality to gradually ameliorate in the coming days.
