Excavation work was underway, with the road in the Karelibaug area cordoned off. The police were taken aback when they arrived at the scene. Eight laborers, including Natu Dalpatbhai Vanzara, who were involved in the excavation, were apprehended. The police confiscated a crane used for pulling cables, a JCB for digging pits, and a tempo filled with stolen cables, valued at over 1 crore rupees. The Deputy Commissioner of Police stated that the initial investigation has unveiled details of the stolen cables from the laborers. A special team has been assembled to apprehend the two masterminds, named Ramu and Sandeep, from Delhi, who subcontracted the work.
