The Surat Crime Branch has arrested 11 employees, including five women, involved in an illegal recruitment scam at the Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited (UGVCL) during the 2020–21 energy department recruitment. Separate teams from various districts, such as Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mehsana, and Himatnagar, cooperated in apprehending the suspects. Following the investigation, it was revealed that UGVCL candidates paid bribes ranging from Rs. 7 to 10 lakh to secure jobs after clearing the illegitimate selection process. The police are currently conducting further inquiries into all the accused.
