India will scrap the Free Movement Regime (FMR) with Myanmar, citing internal security and demographic concerns. Announced by Home Minister Amit Shah, this move ends visa-free travel for border tribes within 16km. This follows plans for border fencing and aligns with Manipur's request to curb illegal immigration. The FMR, implemented in 2018, allowed for easier movement across the 1,643km border. While tensions rise, this decision reflects India's focus on border security and demographic control in its northeastern states.
