Today, alongside Chaitra Navratri, Maharashtrian society celebrates Gudi Padwa, marking the commencement of the new year. Before sunrise, people traditionally erect Gudi flags in their homes, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune. Later, in the afternoon, offerings are made, and dishes like puranpoli, made from the season's fresh harvest, are presented before the deities. It is believed that installing the Gudi removes negative energy, ushering in happiness and blessings for the year ahead.
