The forest department has taken a significant step by prohibiting the use of foreign tree species, Conocarpus, for decorating roads and dividers in areas like Vadodara. Research has highlighted the detrimental impacts of this species on the environment and human life. With its extensive root system, conocarpus trees pose a threat to cables, drainage lines, and water systems. At one point, Vadodara alone had 24,000 conocarpus trees on dividers, and they were also planted in gardens. This ban aims to curb the proliferation of this invasive species in cities like Vadodara, Ahmedabad, and Surat in Gujarat.
