Delhi Police Raids on Journalists and News Portal NewsClick Under UAPA Spark Controversy
Delhi Police conducted early morning raids at 35 locations, including the residences of seven journalists and premises linked to the news portal, NewsClick. A new case has been filed against NewsClick under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), with ongoing scrutiny by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Allegations suggest that the organization illicitly received funds from China without proper documentation. The raids, reminiscent of the Emergency era, targeted journalists, satirists, and activists, including Abhisar Sharma, Bhasha Singh, Prabir Purkayastha, Teesta Setalvad, and more. Scientist D.
