Same-Sex marriage not legally recognized: CJI
A significant development has occurred regarding same-sex marriage in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has denied legal recognition to same-sex marriages. The Chief Justice of India (CJI) stated that this is a matter for the legislature. The Supreme Court has constituted a constitutional bench of five judges to address related challenges separately. Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud emphasized that the Supreme Court cannot nullify legislative provisions concerning special marriage laws. The responsibility for addressing civil rights issues, including the adoption of children by same-sex couples, falls upon the central government.
