Ram Mistry, the very lucky one-year-old was the recipient of a liver transplant after he was diagnosed with a rare congenital condition called 'Biliary Atresia' which eventually causes liver failure in toddlers if the condition is not treated.
The Mistry family of Padra were baffled when Ram developed liver cirrhosis, which eventually led to liver failure, in a few months of his birth. Thanks to the timely diagnosis of his doctors, he became one of the earliest patients of a liver transplant in India which was performed at a hospital in Navi Mumbai. Ram's maternal aunt donated her liver to her nephew.
