The decision was taken by Shri Purnesh Modi, Transport Minister for the registered numbers of the vehicle. Since the numbers hold a sentimental value for the owners, the government has decided to allot the old numbers of the scrapped vehicles will be made available for their new vehicles. This rule was not applicable before. The Minister further said that considering the representations of the applicants through vehicle transactions, it has been decided to implement the Vehicle Number Retention Policy in Gujarat as well as in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. At the time when the vehicle owner applies for the transfer of the vehicle, the number of the vehicle returned will be allotted to the new vehicle purchased by the owner.
